Here we go again!
Steve and Karen have invited me to write a regular column for their website and I am both grateful and excited.
Since 1991 I have written for various crop circle magazines and websites. It started with John Michell’s Cerealogist (New Swirled Order), went on to Andy Thomas’ SC Magazine (Cornography) and transferred from there to his Swirled News website. That contribution was entitled, despite my vehement objections, The Voice of Reason. I was never happy with this title but Andy insisted that it was intended to be ironic. I bit my tongue.
What will Wheat from the Chaff do? I expect that - despite the passage of a year or two - it will remain, like its author, fundamentally unchanged in spirit. I have committed a substantial part of my adult life to the crop circle phenomenon and I remain convinced that it is, in ways we do not yet understand, of crucial importance to the earth and its inhabitants.
Some years ago, I chose to move to the Pewsey Vale to be as close as possible to the crop circles and this allows me to observe the area through the year. Immediately I can report that the Rape seed (Canola) fields are already showing their brilliant yellow. I predict a first formation during April.
I will be examining particular formations throughout the season when they seem to offer useful insights and I will also observe the comings and goings of our many international visitors as they pass through. Some might sneer and call this gossip; I prefer to see it as a Social and Personal Column.
Last year I published Cornography, a collection of my previous crop circle columns and blogs since 1991. Assembling the book made me revisit many previous issues and conflicts but, above all, many delights and revelations.
I kept all the reactions to my columns and they were filed either under Love Letters for appreciation and gratitude or Hate Mail for the opposite. Though the Love Letters file is much bulkier than its Hate Mail sibling I am still shocked by the viciousness of the foam-flecked rage I occasionally provoked
After all these years I remain as enchanted, bewildered and charmed by these mysterious events. I hope that, as well as sharing some of that enchantment, Wheat from the Chaff will occasionally inform.
